Joint Service Housing Advice Office (JSHAO) - Housing Briefs

JSHAO Housing Briefs

The MoD provides civilian housing information to members of the Armed Forces via the Joint Service Housing Advice Office (JSHAO). JSHAO is the MOD’s tri-service focal point providing Service personnel and their family members with pertinent information for those considering civilian accommodation at any time in their career, and for those during resettlement to assist with the transition to civilian life. The bulk of this information is via a 2-2½ hr presentation with 1-1 consults available.

An Independent Financial Mortgage Adviser who is a member of SIIAP (Services Insurance and Investment Advisory Panel) which is recognised by the MOD as supporting the Armed Forces (refer 2013DIN01-218), accompanies JSHAO at the briefings.

Each JSHAO briefing is notified on all HIVE blogs regardless of location to ensure maximum coverage to the Service community.

We’ll harness these to set up high quality work experience which will enhance the ability of the students to get a good job afterwards,” added Halliday.
“We are most grateful for the support of charities and companies, in particular The Royal British Legion, which has most generously provided the bursary.

Service Leavers and Home Owners - Understanding Council Tax

While you are living in Service Families Accommodation you are exempt from paying Council Tax but instead you pay CILOCT (Contribution In Lieu Of Council Tax) which is shown on your pay statement.
When you move out of SFA and into your own home or rented property you will need to register with the local council to pay the correct rate of council tax for that property.
When you enter your postcode online you can find out what Council tax band your house is in and how much your local council charges for that band.
The valuation bands for your home in England and Scotland are based on the price a property would have achieved if it had been sold on the open market on 1 April 1991. In Wales assessments are based on the value of property on 1 April 2003.
A Council Tax bill tells you:
How much you have to pay for the year
How that amount has been worked out
The dates you have to pay
